My oil paintings reflect decades of dedicated practice in my craft, each one a one-of-a-kind piece that will distinguish you as a discerning collector and patron of fine art. These botanical pieces, in particular, represent my evolution as a classically trained painter—bringing the skills I’ve honed painting the human figure into my renderings of nature. THE STORY OF THE ARTWORK
This painting is from my latest series of oil paintings, inspired by my love for mother nature and my philosophy that living in harmony with her seasons brings our lives into balance. In Summer, just like the flowers, we are in full bloom! Charged by the energy of the sun and the longer days, we can strengthen our social connections, give to others, and express our love freely without feeling depleted. In harmony with mother earth, we are abundant and vivacious, ready to follow our passions, fall in love, or birth a new creation into the world.
While Summer refers to the season of the year which typically lasts June - August, Inner Summer refers to the season of Motherhood in our lives, when we are focused on nurturing and bringing to life a baby, a creative project, or simply caring for the living being all around us. It also refers to the ovulatory phase of our menstrual cycle, when our wombs release an egg and prepare for fertilization. This is a powerful time on our life when we have to capacity to achieve our dreams and bloom into the fullness of ourselves.
On a Summertime nature walk in Minnesota, the fields of sumacs dazzled my eyes. I was enthralled by the way the leaves reached out in all directions at once creating a beautiful web of light and shadow, while coned flowers bloomed bright red against the dark green leaves. I could feel the energy of the sumacs growing, expanding and blooming, becoming more beautiful each moment. This scene became the inspiration for an oil painting to represent the feeling of being in full bloom in Summer.
