"Kaleidoscope"

I will forever be entranced by the patterns and colors that are created by the simple combination of leaves, sunlight, and shadows. These leaves are from a wild mountain willow bush that was abundantly blooming on a wildflower hike I went on this Summer in th Sierra Nevadas.
My painting are inspired by my time spent fully present in nature, observing every detail of her beauty up close. I feel waves of emotion in these moments, love, gratitude, awe, excitement, passion, calmness, aliveness, and more than anything a deep and raw sense that I am grounded to the earth and connected to all living things.

These botanical pieces, in particular, represent my evolution as a classically trained painter—bringing the skills I’ve honed painting the human figure into my renderings of nature. PAINTING PROCESS
Every painting is born from time spent in nature. I spend time with the plants, sit with them, photograph them, and then begin painting them. My paintings are always started out in nature, before I bring them back to my studio to finish creating them.
IN THE STUDIO
My painting process is meditative and quiet. I fall into it like it’s a cozy blanket. Long hours with only my canvas and brushes for company melt away as I lose myself (and find myself again) in the creation process.
